Sweet Vegan Treats at Sweet Theory

I got to hang out with my friend Ty today. She lives in California now, but was home in Jax for a vacation! We had lunch at European Street. I had a great vegetarian wrap, and Ty, who is vegan, had a vegan sammy that looked amazing! From there, we checked out a comic shop (Black Hive Comics) and then decided it was time for something sweet, so we walked over to Sweet Theory Baking Co. I got the Stretch Pants Donut, which was wonder-full! It was just sweet enough! A raised donut base with vanilla icing, caramel & chocolate drizzles, and chocolate chip cookie crumbles. Ty had a Cinnamon Donut/Muffin hybrid that had incredible flavor!

Round two included a carrot bread with pineapple glaze. The bread was moist, and the carrots added great flavor and texture, like a slight crunch... but not quite a crunch. The glaze added a fruity sweetness that enhanced the bread! Then there was a chocolate mini muffin with salted caramel. It was small, but packed a powerful, chocolately punch! Excellent treats! This was my second time at Sweet Theory, and I plan to be there again!

I'm not vegan, but I'm not afraid to eat vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, etc... To me, good food is good food. Don't be scared of things like vegan food. Give it a shot and make your judgement based on the dish you're eating and not what you think it's going to be.

Abstract Art Cards

Years ago, I created a bunch of collaged and painted cards for an art fair I had a booth at. While I didn't sell any cards, I did sell some of my jewelry. (I was also the only vendor in my area selling stuff. Being friendly pays people!) Anyway, I ran across these cards a while back and decided to have another go at them. Add to them, or find something new in them. I've got two cards done, and here are the photos... I am showing the photos of them standing up in my studio / office space. The cards are available on Etsy, for those who are interested:

Andy 209 Altered

So, I'm scanning in negatives... trying to digitize them. This is one that was a bit out of focus when I took the photo. I thought... why not play with it some and see what comes of it. Not sure if this is much better, but it was fun to work on.

Blueberry Cobbler

So, for July 4th, my family (parents, brother, and nephew) had a cookout. My brother grilled steaks and chicken (I don't eat beef, so the chicken was for me!)... actually, my nephew handled the grilling of the chicken, and he did a wonder-full job! I made killer potatoes as well as two desserts...  a blueberry cobbler and a vanilla butter cake with mixed berries. Both tasted great! I don't have any pix of the food, but here's my cobbler recipe. Use any kind of fruit or berries that you like. It will turn out well! You can also try variations, like using brown sugar for instance. I sometimes add a little bit of spice, like cinnamon, to the cobbler batter. While warm, top with vanilla ice cream for yummy goodness!

1 stick melted butter
1 cup milk
1 cup self-rising flour
1 cup sugar
2 cups fruit or berries

Mix ingredients. Add fruit of choice. Pour into a baking dish (9x13 works). Bake in a moderate over, around 300 degrees, until brown.
