I hope that everyone has a wonder-full and Happy Thanksgiving! I'll be cooking the meal on my own, for the first time... for the whole family! Mom, Dad, my oldest brother, my sister-in-law, my niece, my older brother, my nephew, and me. Looking forward to the feast!

Metallic Prints + Digitally Altered Photos = Awesomeness!

I got some metallic prints today of some photos (taken by me) that I digitally altered. They look amazing! Much better than what I thought they would, and certainly better than what the scans show! I will have to get more of these! :) As a photographer and artist, I'm always looking for new output and product. I had tried some metallic prints before, but these really impressed me.

Prints are up on eBay - http://myworld.ebay.com/korokstudios They are all of James, so...

All Over Shirts available

I have some of my designs available as all-over print shirts! I have to say, I love overscaled or all-over designs on a shirt. They are up in my Cafe Press store. Now, they are a little pricey, but remember that they are Print-On-Demand shirts... so you are likely going to have a unique shirt that very few other people will have! Here are some examples...

Riverside Arts Market

Today I found myself at the Riverside Arts Market at lunchtime. I walked around, checking things out, and decided to have a crepe filled with chicken, grilled onions, spinach, and swiss cheese. Along with the home-made lemonade, it was a yummy lunch! I sat down and listened to the band playing music, with the cool breeze off the river, and ate my lunch. It was great!

The Riverside Arts Market is a weekly affair on Saturdays in Jacksonville, FL. It's under the Fuller Warren Bridge, on Riverside Avenue. It's small, but lively. Lots of farmer's market type stalls alongside artists, and several vendors selling food! Sometimes there's someone reading tarot cards there. It's worth checking out!

November 30th is an event for Small Business Saturday! Go check out the wares here... You might find some great holiday gifts!

Giraffes In Red

I made a new shirt design... I started with two photos of giraffes, taken by me from a trip to the zoo earlier this year. I abstracted one of the photos, and made it red. I copied a giraffe out of another photo, destaturated and abstracted him a bit for contrast, and put him in the foreground. Thus was born... Giraffes In Red.

Subbed to a t-shirt company, it got rejected. However, it is available on Society 6 at http://society6.com/KoreyWatkins/Girrafes-In-Red_T-shirt#11=49&4=75

It will also be available on RedBubble: http://www.redbubble.com/people/korokstudios/shop  RedBubble has a mixed bag of my work there.

Anyway, I hope you like the new design. More will be coming from me soon!

Tee Shirts

I love tee shirts, and have been trying to break into tee-shirt design for some time now. I've submitted to various companies, including (but not limited to) Threadless, Design By Human, Goodjoe, Teefury, Qwertee, Other Tees, etc... Sometimes my designs make it into voting. Other times, not. I have yet to be printed by one of these companies.

To offset that, I post work on Zazzle and Society6. I admit, some of my designs don't quite fit what they are promoting. Other times, it's frustrating because even tho I was on topic with a pop culture mash-up, for example, it wasn't the right one. Well, if you expect to get anywhere, you will receive rejections. Learn what you can from any useful notes, and keep doing what you love. I keep on doing stuff, and hopefully will have a new collection of designs to inflict, er, share with the world!

Here are some of my designs:

North Florida Comic Con

Yesterday I went to the North Florida Comic Con with my friend Drew. It was awesome. Check out their site at: http://northfloridacomiccon.com/

I mostly bought from one dealer... he had a lot of old teen humour books, like Patsy Walker. One score was an issue of Life With Millie, which I've never seen at a show. And I also got a run-down, but complete issue of the hilarious My Friend Irma. These books are hard to find. All of them were at an affordable price.

Of course, I also got some superhero books, some Charlton Comics - mostly westerns, but a couple of horror ones as well. Some Archies made it home with me as well. I will be posting more of my finds as I read them. You can also check out my Pinterest page to see what I post there: http://www.pinterest.com/dynakor/boards/

Montreal

As promised earlier, here's the low-down on my trip to Montreal! I found out that I had won this trip toward the end of July. I was excited to be the winner, and quickly got my passport so I could go. Part of the trip was getting to be an extra in a LogoTV web-series that will come out next year. (Yes, I'll post that info when it comes available.) It was only a 2-night trip, and it was exhausting (we did a lot of walking), but it was amazing!

Montreal - Day 1 - we arrived in Montreal around noon. We took the bus in from the airport and walked a couple of blocks to the hotel. It was overcast, and a little cool, but pleasant. Got checked in, and went in search of food. Having only really seen a McDonald's close to the hotel, we headed there. We discovered the train station, with a lot of food choices... and did a good bit of our eating there. After food, we headed towards Chinatown. On the way there, we discovered that the Montreal Comicon was being held. We walked thru Chinatown, and came back to the Comicon. James had never been to a comic convention before, and wanted to go, so we went. We got to meet Felicia Day, who was very nice. James got his photo taken with her. I got pix of people in costumes. I also got to meet Dan Parent from Archie Comics! Yay! Picked up a t-shirt, and a comic from a Montreal artist. Also got the con-exclusive Archie comic. After that, we got dinner, and back to the hotel to collapse. For me, the day began at 3am, and James had been up since the day before.

Montreal day 2 - we got breakfast at a crepe place I spotted the day before. YUMMY crepes! Mine was bananas and chocolate. James had bananas and strawberries! Fueled up, we headed towards Rue Saint-Paul for some shopping. It's was a beautiful walk, and the street is closed off to cars at a certain point. Lots of tourist-y shops. I got some postcards and stuff for friends, but could not find a shirt in my size for me. Still, I enjoyed walking along the street. We then cut over and walked down Rue Saint-Antoine, heading back to the hotel. Part of the trip was a walk-on for a web-series by Logo TV. We wanted to rest up a bit before that. At 3, Erin, the rep from Logo, picked us up and took us to the shoot. It was a dinner scene, and we got used twice in it... sitting together at one table, and then across the room (in different shirts) for a different view of the main action. Fun! After that, we got food at the Deli Planet. We both had the Lex Luther sandwich, which was a lot of food! (Big sammie with lots of fries and slaw!) Got some donuts at a coffee shop chain for snacks later and headed back to the hotel. With all the walking, we were tired. We got to watch an episode of Castle in French before passing out for the night.

Montreal day 3 - after checking out, we headed over to Rue Sainte-Catherine. More shopping, but not too much. Lunch was sushi for James and Korean barbeque for me at a food court at a mall we found. (Not a big mall... just in an office building, but several stories worth of stores.) After that, we got the bus back to the airport. Going thru customs was easy-peasy. It was just an electronic kiosk. We left Montreal around 2, and were back home around 7pm. A short trip, but it was a lot of fun! I'm glad to have this experience, and that I got to share it with James.

i cannot breathe...

I write poetry from time to time... This is the latest one, called "i cannot breathe"

i cannot breathe....

i am denied air, food, water
i am denied something that is vital to me

before you came into my life, before i loved you
i didn't understand. i didn't know it was missing
now, there is a gaping void

the world spins and continues on
the rain falls from the sky
i choke on fresh air as i walk.. i stumble...

i fall

i cannot fall...

others rely on me
my shoulders must be steel
without the support i need
to be denied the ability to offer that support in return
i fall, i cannot breathe

i get up

i always get up
hide in my cave
buy the groceries
scream silently into the night
hope it gets better

i cannot breathe...

Welcome

Hello! Welcome to my new blog! It's going to be a mash-up of stuff! I decided I wanted a general blog... something about my life. It will include my photography ("beefcake" or scantily clad men - whichever you prefer), comic book art, general photography, recipes, stuff that happens to me, and anything else that enters into my fevered little brain! Now, I made mention of my beefcake photography because I don't want anyone to be offended. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, and I will likely keep those posts to a minimum as I have a blog dedicated to it. I also have a blog dedicated to my comic art, and my sketch cards. However, these things are a part of my life.

The above photo is me, from my recent trip to Montreal. I won a contest from LogoTV, and got to go with my friend James in September. It was an amazing trip! More on that in a bit.

Who am I? Well, I am a 44 year old gay man who resides in Northeast Florida. I have a lot of interests. I read too much - comics, books, etc... I like to take photos, draw, and sometimes paint. I have done beadwork in the past, and have interest in returning to it. I am trying to break into t-shirt design. I like music and movies, and watch too many Food Network shows! I believe in equality for all, and respecting others. I don't feel the entire world has to like everything I like or agree with everything I believe in. But if they want my respect, they have to give me the same!

Anyway, that's it for my intro. I will be posting about my Montreal trip in a little bit...

Welcome to my world!
